How To Bid
- Browse through item categories
(we know you'll find many exciting items).
- If you have not yet registered, you will be asked to fill out a registration
form the first time you actually bid on or buy an item. Bids or purchases will not go through
without registering first.
- Once you have registered and found an auction item you wish to bid on, you have
two choices:
- Firm Bid: you may place a Firm Bid that is at least the minimum bid increment
above the current bid, or
- Proxy Bid: you may place the highest bid you are willing to pay for an item, using a
Proxy Bid. A Proxy bid will automatically
increase in the minimum bid increments, up to the maximum
that you have indicated, but only if you have been outbid. Your
winning bid may end up less than the your designated maximum.
- Remember to bid high . . . (we want YOU to win!). Bids must be in whole
dollar amounts, without decimal points, commas, or dollar signs.
- C.A.P.A. Auction reserves the sole discretion and authority to reassign
any auction item(s) through the duration of this online, silent
auction, ending officially on November 16, 2007.
- An email confirmation of your bid will be sent to the email address entered in your
registration.
- If you are outbid you will receive an email with the details and offered the opportunity to return to the auction and raise your bid.
- When the bidding has ended, you will be notified by email if you have won.
- Bidding stops and auction officially closes on November 16, 2007.
- If you have questions, please contact Calgary Academy Parents Association by phone at 403.226.3634, or by email: capa_help@shaw.ca.
F.A.Q.
How do I find the items I am looking for?
Items are listed by category, or by a master list of all items. Use the Categories link to access them. Browsing through
each category is the best way to find the items that C.A.P.A. Auction offers.
How do I bid?
If you wish to bid on or buy an item, click on the name of the item to view its details. At the bottom of the item's description, you will then press a button that reads, "Click to Bid on This Item," or alternatively, "Click to Buy This Item."
The first time you bid on or purchase an item, you will be asked to fill out a form with your address, payment information and password. The next time you enter the auction, as long as you sign in using your designated email and password, your profile will be applied to any subsequent bids, and you will not be asked for your payment information again.
Please note: you can edit your profile at any time by clicking the link, "My Profile." You can view a complete list of your bids, by clicking the link, "My Bids."
What is a Proxy Bid?
Choosing a Proxy Bid is a good way to indicate the maximum amount you are willing to bid, without necessarily spending the maximum, or having to monitor the auction and increase your bid. If you are familiar with eBay, then you'll recognize that our proxy bid functions just like an eBay proxy bid.
The way it works is easy:
you indicate the highest bid you are willing to pay for an item by placing an a Proxy Bid. Your Proxy Bid will automatically increase in the minimum bid increments, up to the maximum that you have indicated -- but only if and when you have been outbid -- so your winning bid may end up less than your designated maximum.
The use of a Proxy Bid means not having to check your email or watch the
auction to see if your bid needs to be raised. It also means that you have a better chance of winning a hotly contested item during the inevitable flurry just before bidding closes.
C.A.P.A. Auction urges you to carefully decide what is the maximum amount you are
willing to pay, since you will not be able to lower that amount during the
course of the auction. If you are outbid while an item is still available, however, you will be able to re-enter the auction and increase it.
How do I know if I won?

I didn't mean to bid on that item,
can I take it back?
A bid is a contract to buy that may be entered into by individuals who can form legally binding contracts under applicable law. A bid may not be reduced or removed once it has been recorded. For that reason, we ask you to consider carefully the bid(s) you place and purchases you make, before they are officially recorded and legally binding. If you are a minor, you can use this service only in conjunction with your parents or guardians. If you do not qualify, please do not use our services.
